With the world slowly recovering from the COVID pandemic, bioscientists have already started looking for the microorganism that can trigger a public health crisis. Last week, the World Health Organization held a meeting that brought together 300 top scientists from across the globe.

In the meeting, the UN body and scientists discuss 25 virus families and bacteria, as well as "Disease X." According to the UN body, "disease X" indicates an unknown pathogen that could cause a serious international epidemic.

The officials from the health agency stated that they are launching a scientific protocol to update the list of priority pathogens. They added that this list was designed to guide global investment, research, and development, especially in vaccines, tests, and treatments.

Currently, the bugs included in the WHO list are COVID-19, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Ebola virus disease, Marburg virus disease, Lassa fever, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Nipah and henipaviral diseases, Rift Valley fever, Zika, and Disease X.
